Success Story: Transforming Learning at Echilumbeni Community Day Secondary School Through Digital Education

Located approximately 20 kilometres from Mzimba Boma, Echilumbeni Community Day Secondary School is one of the many rural schools benefiting from CEE's commitment to bridging the digital divide. The organisation is dedicated to expanding access to digital education for disadvantaged communities, contributing to Malawi's vision of building an inclusive, technology-driven nation in line with Malawi Vision 2063.

Echilumbeni Community Day Secondary School has experienced a remarkable transformation in teaching and learning following the 20 desktop computers and a projector from Computers for Enhanced Education (CEE).

During the handover ceremony, members of the CEE team gathered feedback from students, who expressed their gratitude and excitement about the opportunities the new computers would create.

Glory Mumba, a Form 4 student, shared her appreciation:

"Before this donation, I had very little knowledge of how to use a computer or access educational information digitally. I did not understand how computers worked, but now it has become easy to read books and learn using computers. With the projector, our teachers can deliver lessons more effectively, even when chalk is unavailable. We can now access academic books electronically, and I believe this will help us perform better in our examinations."

Another student, Thula Mkandawire, a Form 2 learner, explained how the computers would become an important learning resource for the school.

"These computers will serve as a reliable library because so many educational materials can be stored in one place. Once the computers are connected to the internet, we will also be able to download additional learning resources that will improve our studies."

The Headteacher described the donation as a milestone for the school.

"We are greatly honoured by this support. The world is becoming increasingly digital, and quality education must embrace technology. Computers make it easier for both teachers and students to access information and educational resources. This donation will go a long way in improving teaching and learning at our school. We are committed to taking good care of the equipment to ensure it benefits many generations of learners."

The transformation at Echilumbeni Community Day Secondary School demonstrates how access to digital technology can unlock opportunities for rural learners. By equipping schools with ICT infrastructure and empowering teachers and students with digital skills, Computers for Enhanced Education is helping shape a future where every learner could succeed in an increasingly digital world.
